Our Little Garden Paradise

July 25, 2016 by Heidi Olsen 2 Comments

We grow a lot of things in our little garden paradise in the city. We grow everything from apples to zucchini squash and everything in between!

Our favorite plants to grow are tomatoes, lettuce, and all kinds of squash because they’re our favorite things to eat!

I like to call our family “city farmers”. We look forward to growing our garden every year. We start our seeds indoors when there is still snow on the ground! We count the days as planting time draws near.

We get super excited when we see the seed displays at the store. We love to spend time in the seed aisle daydreaming about the layout of this year’s garden.

Even though this is our 5th year planting at this home, our garden is very different this year from previous years. We’re growing new things this year, too.

We were able to finally pull up the roots of an old tree from our garden bed. This provided enough space to expand the garden without having to tear up more lawn. I was very grateful for this because we had to do this when we first moved into our home. It was a ton of work for my family!!

We pulled down the garden fence this year, too. Our squash plants were taking over the carrots, and they needed more room to grow!

We’ve been eating lots of zucchini and different types of lettuce out of the garden so far. There’s nothing like eating fresh fruits and veggies your family has grown.

The garden is definitely a family effort! I’m so thankful that we get to do it together. It’s like watching our family’s love grow!

We will be doing lots of canning this year, too. We’re growing 30 tomato plants this year!! Our tomato sauce we canned last year made it just into the summer. I’m hoping to have enough homemade canned tomato sauce to last us until we have tomatoes ready to eat on the plants next summer. We also decided to grow extra carrots this year because we always seem to run out of them by spring. I always make sure we have some carrots saved from our family garden for our family’s spring dinner the next year.

My wonderful husband planted beautiful daylilies for me. They’re some of favorite flowers. Plus, it gives something pretty for our children to pick and bring to Mama. It’s a tradition he started when our girls were little and I love it! God has blessed us abundantly!

Build houses and live in them; and plant gardens and eat their produce. ~ Jeremiah 29:5

Blessings and Love from our family to yours,

Hello my friend! Well done on the blog, I enjoyed the section on your garden. It was impressive to see as well! I made a rose garden for erin, but the monsoon storms blew down the screen shade and now the rose bushes are being baked. Unfortunatry for us, nothing lives here lol!

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
~ 1 Timothy 6:12

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ
~ 2 Corinthians 10:3-5

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
~ John 16:33

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
~ Isaiah 40:28-31

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
~ Romans 8:31
