Happy Birthday, Sweet Grace!
I can’t believe my girl is 13!!! Where has time gone? I remember the day she was born like it was yesterday. She was my easiest pregnancy (so far), so I should have known that her labor would be memorable, too.
Thirteen years ago today, our family had just celebrated Christmas with Grandpa & Grandma at their house. My husband and I headed to Swedish Medical Center earlier than planned because I started having contractions around midnight. I was scheduled to be induced the next morning, so we got to spend the night, hoping you would come on your own. I knew what I was doing this time around (or so I thought!) and I was determined to have a simple, easy birth. I was induced the next morning with my husband and my sister by my side. I was so excited to meet my new baby! I knew she would be a girl and thought I would get someone just like Merci, our first child. She was a completely new unique blend of my love with my husband. How amazing!
I love all of my children’s birth experiences for different reasons, hers was my most calming birth experience. It was short, simple, relaxing (Yes, I said relaxing!), hopeful, my younger sister was there for the birth of my second girl, and Grandma (aka Mom) made me a chocolate birthday cake to celebrate. How cool is that!
Her name means to cherish and honor God’s blessings. This has definitely been what she has taught me. My life with her started in such a peaceful, calming way. I cried tears of joy as I held her for the first time. She taught me to have patience with life even when things are tough. She nursed like a champ from day 1, even though we spent the the first 3 months of her life learning how to deal with colic. She taught me to trust God and to enjoy the blessings He gives to me. She taught me that I can figure things out if I don’t know how. She taught me to always count on the unexpected in life – in a good way. She was the sweetest, softest, most snuggly baby! Norm nicknamed her Bunny (and we still call her that) because she was such a snuggle bunny! I will always cherish the memories of your birth day, sweetheart.
Today Graci wears glasses, plays the guitar, knits,
and does all the work on the farm that her mama does.
This is Grace and Mama back in 2008. She will always look like this to me.
And my heart still leaps every time I see her!
Love, Grace’s Mama
P.S. Thank you for the inspiration for this post Pioneer Woman!
Congratulations on your third teenager!
